Frequently Asked Questions
My child has never been to Church before? Can I bring them along to St John’s?
Yes! There are lots of things for your children to get involved with at St John’s: from Diddy and Junior Disciples during our 10:30am Sunday Parish Mass to Friday PlayTime!, Messy Church, socials, serving in church, and so much more!
What are Diddy and Junior Disciples?
At St John’s, Diddy Disciples (ages 0 – 7) and Junior Disciples (7 – 11) meet during the 10:30am Parish Mass. When you come to church, please let the Welcome Team know that you’re new, and they’ll introduce you and your child to one of the Diddy or Junior Disciple team. Children over the age of 7 are also encouraged to join the young servers’ team on the last Sunday of the month.
What is PlayTime?
PlayTime! is a free group for 0 – 5s that meets every Friday in term-time from 9:30 – 11am. There’s free play, role play, sensory play, sand, water, craft, songs, stories and fresh coffee and home-baked goods for the parents! PlayTime! is completely free. Book here.
What is Messy Church?
Messy Church meets on the second Sunday of the month from 3:30 – 5:30pm for themed science experiments, craft, paint, baking, and so much more! There’ll be a 15 minute time of worship, before a free hot-meal for the whole family. Everyone is welcome. Book here.
What is Youth Church?
Youth Church meets on the first and third Sunday of the month during Parish Mass and on the last Sunday of the month between 2 – 4pm for discussion, games, and activities! All young people of secondary school age are welcome. Find out more here.
Can my child be baptised or prepare for First Communion or Confirmation?
We would love to talk more with you and your child about that. Please come along to Parish Mass at 10:30am on a Sunday to speak to one of the clergy or email [email protected] to book an appointment 🙂
We don’t come to church. Are we welcome at special events like the Halloween Party or Journey of the Magi?
Of course! St John’s is open to the whole community. Join in as much or as little as you would like!
My child has additional needs or has recently settled in an adoptive or foster home. Are we welcome at St John’s?
Definitely! At St John’s, all children are welcome and families of all shapes and sizes have a place in our community. Please do be in touch with Fr John or Mthr Rachael about how we might help your child feel safe and welcome at any of our services and events. We are here to support you 🙂
