Frequently Asked Questions
What is Messy Church?
Messy Church is a jam-packed afternoon of themed science experiments, crafts, activities, baking, modelling, painting, storytelling, role play, singing, and a hot meal for the whole family!
Who is Messy Church for?
Messy Church is for families of all shapes and sizes. Children aged 3 – 12 will get the most out of Messy Church, but younger and older children are also welcome! If you have children younger than 4, you might like to check out our Friday PlayTime! sessions.
Is my child the ‘right’ age for Messy Church?
Messy Church activities are aimed mainly at primary school age children, but younger and older children are also welcome. Younger children may enjoy the sensory play, whilst older primary school age children can often be found at the science station! Teenagers often make great young leaders.
How much does Messy Church cost?
Messy Church is completely free, but we would love it if you might like to make a donation.
What happens at Messy Church?
There’s an hour of activities, followed by a time of storytelling and singing, and then a hot meal for children and grown-ups! (Rumour has it we’re having pasta with fresh tomato sauce and cheese, followed by chocolate cake and fruit. Yum!)
Can I drop my child off at Messy Church?
No, Messy Church is for families so all children need to be accompanied by an adult, apart from our teenage volunteers 🙂
My child has additional needs or has recently settled in an adoptive or foster home. Are we welcome at Messy Church?
Definitely! At St John’s, all children are welcome and families of all shapes and sizes have a place in our community. Please do feel free to be in touch with Fr John or Mthr Rachael about how we might help your child feel safe and welcome at Messy Church. We are here to support you 🙂
