On Sunday 2nd September we welcomed our new Director of Music, Max Smith.
Max graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2015 with a degree in music. He has been an organ scholar at Wakefield Cathedral under Thomas Moore, at Carlisle Cathedral under Jeremy Suter, and at Peel Cathedral (Isle of Man) under Peter Litman. At Peel Max accompanied services and co-directed the early music group the Tallis Consort, also assisting with the schools outreach programme for the music department. Aside from working as a liturgical organist Max enjoys walking, motorbike touring, and driving his MG Midget. He holds the ARSM diploma in organ performance.
Fr John Pritchard is delighted that Max is joining the parish as Director of Music and will be the custodian of the fine Lewis organ. Max‘s work as Director of Music will take him into the community to further build up relationships with local music makers and encourage a wider appreciation of the choral tradition in the parish and worshipping community, celebrating what we do well and exploring new paths in encouraging people to share in our music in worship and in concerts. Max comes with our full support to see the offering of music continue to flourish in this community.
