St John’s is a safe place for children, and is involved in various ways in helping those with young children.
Every Sunday St John’s runs Diddy Disciples, a resource which introduces young children to worship and Bible stories. It is aimed at children at nursery or infant school, but very young children who enjoy it are welcome to take part. It is helpful if some of the parents accompany their children.
For children at junior school, Junior Disciples helps them to engage with the faith in a more discursive way. Many of these children also receive Holy Communion, and we are happy to prepare any children who are 7 or above. These children are also encouraged to join our Junior Choir.
Croydon Best Start
St John’s is participating in the roll-out of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) alongside parents of under-fives as part of Croydon Council’s Best Start programme. We have employed a Community Builder, who began work in October 2016. If you are a parent of a 0- to 5-year-old who lives in South Norwood or Upper Norwood and would like to find out how you could get involved, get in touch with Jenny Jones on ABCDStJohns@gmail.com.
St John’s is committed to keep safe and protect from harm any child or adult who may be vulnerable.
If you need to discuss any concerns in confidence, please approach Rachel Rae or Rebecca Hall (our Safeguarding Officers), or one of the clergy. Alternatively you can email firstname.lastname@example.org. All conversations will be treated seriously and sensitively.
