Part of our mission at St John’s is to bring people together in closer relationship, both those who already come to services and those who live in the wider community.
The Upper Norwood Hive
The Upper Norwood Hive is a community space where you can come and hang out, drink coffee, do some art, get advice, or just get out of the house. All welcome!
It takes place every Wednesday in the hall at the far end of the church, beginning at 1pm with lunch, and ending at 3.30pm. If you want someone to meet you beforehand, get in touch with Fr Daniel (firstname.lastname@example.org).
We’re fundraising for the Hive – visit our JustGiving campaign page to donate!
Friendship Lunches and Teas
About once a month, we hold an event for people to get to know each other better. These will appear in the calendar.
Part of the grounds of St John’s has been developed into an allotment where we grow fruit, vegetables, and herbs. We call this area the Meadow. Members of the local community are invited to work on the meadow and to eat its produce.
You are encouraged to visit the Meadow whenever you like but every Wednesday between about 2.30 and 4.30pm there will be people working on the garden, and you would be very welcome to join us. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Lakeside Nursing Home
Lakeside Nursing Home is a care home in the parish which specializes in the care of Alzheimer’s patients. On the last Wednesday of every month, members of St John’s go to Lakeside to give Holy Communion to the residents, and near Christmas the choir visit to sing carols. If you would like to be involved in these or other activities at Lakeside, please contact Rob Barber.
