St John’s – closing to public worship

Dear friends

When I wrote to you on Wednesday, detailing the steps we were taking to keep St John’s safe while we remained open, I said “We will continue to monitor the situation and will respond appropriately and quickly if and when any changes to the above become necessary or desirable.”

Yesterday afternoon, the Mayor of London declared a major incident in relation to the ongoing Covid-19 situation which is placing huge stress on our health and other frontline services.  In consultation with the Churchwardens, I have therefore concluded that the safest course to take is to close St John’s to public worship with immediate effect and for the foreseeable future.  This means that:

  • worship will immediately move to online platforms only (Facebook or Zoom).
  • St John’s will remain open for private prayer
  • As previously advised, Junior Disciples will be provided via Zoom

We will continue to review the situation over the coming weeks and will re-open for public worship when it is safe to do so.

Please do remember that I am here and available to you – don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need to do so.  I can be reached via [email protected] and the churchwardens via [email protected].

Fr John
