Biography:
Hungarian-born pianist Mihaly Gyorfi is a versatile artist whose work encompasses performance, collaboration, and outreach. His musicianship has been featured in recordings for Hungarian National Radio and performances at esteemed venues such as St. James’ Church Piccadilly in London and Fazioli Hall in Sacile, Italy. His early training was guided by Graham Fitch before he continued his studies at the prestigious Purcell School as a grant recipient. He recently completed a Master of Music degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied with Tatiana Sarkissova and Mei-Ting Sun, supported by a scholarship.
During lockdown, Mihaly taught himself German, which later informed his postgraduate dissertation on the satirical songs of Weimar Berlin. His postgraduate lecture recital at RAM examined the influence of Hungarian speech rhythms on Bartók’s Piano Sonata, further reflecting his keen interest in linguistics. Looking ahead to 2026, he plans to put on a series of recitals celebrating the sonata, marking the centenary of the composer’s “piano” year.
