  • Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent

    Ash Wednesday

    Wednesday 18 February at 10 AM + 7:30 PM

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent —a season of reflection, fasting, and drawing closer to God in preparation for Easter. The ashes remind us of our need for grace: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

Come as you are, everyone is welcome!

(Both Masses include the imposition of ashes)

  • Stations of the Cross St John's Upper Norwood

    Stations of the Cross

From Friday 20 February to 27 March | 5.30 PM

Please join us on Fridays at 5.30 pm for our Stations of the Cross devotions, where we walk with Christ on his journey to the cross. These will start on 20 February and will take place weekly up to 27 March.

  • Discover Communion! at St John's Upper Norwood

    Discover Communion!

Starting on Sunday 1 March | During Mass

We will be preparing children aged 7–11 who wish to receive their First Communion on Easter Day. Through stories, science, baking, and prayer, we explore what it means to belong to the Christian community. The course runs over four Sunday sessions: 01/03, 08/03, 22/03 and 29/03.

  • Sunday Parish Lunch

    Sunday Parish Lunch

Sunday 1 March | After Mass

Join us after Mass for our March lunch, cooked by Jade and Matteo: a shared meal and a time to connect with fellow parishioners. Everyone is warmly welcome!

Suggested donation: £5 per person / £10 per family.

  • Lent Guest Preachers

    Lent Guest Preachers

    Sundays 01/03 - 08/03 - 16/03 - 23/03

During this season of reflection, we invite members of the St John’s congregation to share how their everyday experiences shape—and are shaped by—their faith. We are very grateful to them for giving up their time and stepping into the spotlight in this way.

  • Compassion Through Loss

    Compassion Through Loss

    Monday 2 March | 2:30-4:30 PM

Have you experienced the loss of someone close to your heart? Grief can feel heavy, but you don’t have to carry it alone. Compassion Through Loss is a peer-led support group offering a safe, gentle space to share, listen, and reflect together, at St John’s Community Hall, Sylvan Road, SE19 2RX.

You are welcome, just as you are.

  • Bishop Christopher’s Visit – Mothering Sunday at St John's Upper Norwood

Bishop Christopher’s Visit – Mothering Sunday

    Sunday 15 March | 10:30 AM Mass

We are delighted and honoured that Bishop Christopher will visit us on Sunday 15 March (Mothering Sunday) to preside at the 10.30am Mass.

This will be his final visit to St John’s as our Bishop, so please do make every effort to attend as we gather to worship together and to wish him well in his retirement.

  • The Duck with No Luck London Mozart Players

The Duck with No Luck by London Mozart Players

    Sunday 22 March | 3:30-4:30 PM

What’s a fed-up duck who feels all out of luck supposed to do? Go and ask a wise owl for help, of course! The Duck with No Luck is a funny, uplifting and reassuring tale about how to tackle the ups and downs of life, take a more positive look at things and appreciate what you have around you.

This children’s story for ages 3+ is brought to life with live music and narration, all while introducing your children to the magic of music.
