Volunteering Experiences: Meet Fraser
Fraser volunteers across some of St John's most welcoming spaces, from serving refreshments after Mass to helping at Messy Church, Christmas events, and The Hub. He's also working towards his Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award along the way. Here's what he had to say.
1. What do you do as a volunteer at St John’s?
I serve refreshments after Mass, I’m part of the welcoming team, I’ve helped at Messy Church, Christmas events and the Hub. Serving refreshments means that I help set up the cake table, I get to chat to people while giving them cake, and I tidy up afterwards.
2. Why do you enjoy volunteering?
I started volunteering because it gave me something to do after Mass. At the moment, I am working towards my Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award, so volunteering at St John’s is a good thing to do for that. I really like working with the refreshments team and with the Youth Church.
3. What’s one memorable moment or highlight from volunteering this past year?
I’ve enjoyed cake sales with Youth Church. At Messy Easter, I spent more than two hours serving ice cream, and by the end of the afternoon, my right arm was sore from operating the ice cream machine.
