Biography:
Helen Raggatt (née Scarbrough) studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she won the Ivan Sutton Award for chamber music and was awarded the Philip Jones Prize for the most promising woodwind student. Helen subsequently took the post of ensemble in residence with her wind trio and was also awarded a full scholarship to study as a postgraduate at the Royal College of Music. Here she gained a distinction and held a post as a Junior Fellow.
As an orchestral musician, Helen has played with many orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, and the English National Ballet. As a soloist, Helen has performed many concertos on oboe, including Strauss, Mozart, Bellini, and Vaughan Williams.
Helen spent many years teaching oboe at the Centre for Young Musicians and performed regularly for the charity Music in Hospitals. Her current love is chamber music, and these concerts fit around her own childcare commitments and her current work as a primary school music teacher. Helen teaches whole-class music lessons from nursery-aged children to Year 6, runs choirs and delivers singing assemblies.
Miles Chapman is currently the Principal Bassoon and founding member of the New London Harmonia. He is a prominent orchestral player, having held the position of Principal Bassoon with a number of London orchestras. He is also a sought-after chamber musician and specialises in contemporary classical music. Miles began studying the bassoon at the age of 9, winning a scholarship to Winchester College, where he performed the Francaix Bassoon Concerto. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Music from Queen’s College, Oxford, whilst studying with John Orford at the Royal Academy of Music.
Stephen Dickinson trained at the Royal College of Music and has pursued a varied career as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist and musical director. As a composer, he has written settings of Shakespeare and Housman as well as the Latin texts for the Stabat Mater and the Requiem Mass, together with much chamber music.
